GE2025: RDU criticizes election timeline, claims ruling party benefits from short campaign period
Red Dot United (RDU) has voiced concerns over Singapore's election timeline, arguing that the short campaign period is strategically designed to benefit the ruling party. RDU accuses the ruling party of exploiting the May Day Rally’s timing, ensuring media coverage on Cooling-off Day, while opposition parties are barred from responding.

GE2025: RDU Criticises Election Timeline, Claims Ruling Party Benefits
Title: GE2025: RDU criticizes election timeline, claims ruling party benefits from short campaign period
Source: The Online Citizen, published 2025-04-14 16:00:00
Author: Not specified
Article Summary:
Theme: Red Dot United (RDU), an opposition party in Singapore, has raised concerns about the short election campaign period, accusing the ruling party of manipulating the timeline for an unfair advantage.
Core Points:
- RDU argues that the short campaign period, lasting just over two weeks, puts opposition parties at a disadvantage as they have less time to mobilize resources, build momentum, and engage voters.
- The party criticizes the timing of Nomination Day on 23 April, which falls just before the May Day Rally, an event traditionally dominated by the ruling party's National Trades Union Congress (NTUC).
- RDU believes this timing allows the ruling party to control the media narrative on Cooling-off Day (2 May), a day when opposition parties are barred from campaigning, by using the May Day Rally to announce promises and policies that will be widely reported.
- RDU claims this strategy gives the ruling party an unfair advantage in shaping public opinion.
Phenomenon: The article highlights a common issue in elections where political parties, especially those in opposition, often perceive the ruling party as using its influence and resources to manipulate election timelines and media coverage for its own benefit.
Additional Details:
- RDU claims the ruling party is "insecure" and "unable to trust the strength of its message," resorting to "every possible advantage" to maintain power.
- Despite the perceived disadvantage, RDU is committed to contesting the election and plans to launch its manifesto outlining its core policies and vision for Singapore's future.
- The party is focusing on engaging directly with voters, addressing key issues such as the rising cost of living, job security, and improving the quality of life for ordinary Singaporeans.

PAP will say 5 years to prepare u don't have enough time and resources to standby for GE?
But one thing is the timing is just in line with May 1 Labour Day. Obviously PAP, NTUC Will put " fear " again riding on Trump blah blah again " uncertain " to get votes.

Well... RDU can win everyone over and do the same when they are the incumbent. Fair level playing field is a nice and idealistic position but nobody will do that. Be realistic.

RDU is no standard kind of opposition and complain about no time. Infact more than enough time you can see some other parties already start campaigning start of March or even earlier.
