Covid-19: the peak of contaminations expected, but the situation in the hospital will continue to worsen

According to epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet, the peak of contamination from the Covid-19 wave should take place "in mid-January" in France. The situation at the hospital remains worrying.

The epidemiologist Arnaud Fontanet, member of the Scientific Council, reiterated that this peak will take place "mid-January at the national level", with however "regional variations". The peak could in particular arrive more quickly in Ile-de-France, where the Omicron variant is now in the majority at 95% (87% in the rest of France), and later in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, where the variant Omicron was installed later and is in the majority at 77%. Arnaud Fontanet specifies: "The prospect is that in February, the number of contaminations drops considerably and we hope that in March we have reached much lower levels."
