The Monument to the Battle of the Nations is in darkness, the traffic lights no longer light up at night, the swimming pools remain cold: This is how the municipalities want to save energy - an overview with examples from several federal states.
Berlin
The lights go out in Berlin at night: the country no longer illuminates some of its landmarks, such as the Victory Column, the Berlin Cathedral, the Humboldt Forum, the Memorial Church and the Red City Hall. The state of Berlin wants to extend its lighting stop to around 200 objects in order to save energy.
The light at Bellevue Palace and the Reichstag building is only dimly lit at night.Even the lighting of the Christmas markets is up for debate in the capital.
