GERMANY and the Netherlands plan to start drilling gas from the North Sea about 10 nautical miles, or 19 kilometers off the coast, the Dutch government said on Wednesday.
Russia cut off gas supplies to the Netherlands on Tuesday because energy company Gas Terra refused to pay Gazprom for gas as required by Russia.
"The government is supporting gas intake in the North Sea, for example, to get enough gas to heat our houses," the Ministry of Economic Affairs said.
Gas extraction is expected to begin in 2024.
