Political support will rest largely on public appetite for the Games at a time of large-scale spending cuts, although there have been assurances that no underwriting would be required by either the UK or Scottish governments.

Instead, it would be funded by a Commonwealth Games Federation investment of £100m, plus private income.

It has been suggested that the 2026 Games would feature between 10 and 13 sports, compared with 18 in 2014. Only four venues would be used in 2026 – including Scotstoun Stadium and the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

Nowadays no country wants to host Commonwealth Games. Melbourne was supposed to host the next one, it cancelled.They are having problem to find a country that is willing to host the games.
