Grab ends remote work arrangements for staff from Dec 2024
#1

Grab requires its staff to work 5 days per week in the office starting this December. It was announced during their company's town hall yesterday morning, 24 October. Staff who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed that the end of WFH takes effect from 2 December 2024.

Does anybody notice that companies that are not performing well prefer to have their employees in the office full-time? I wonder if this move is a push factor for certain staff to quit to find another employer which allows for remote working arrangements. Amazon appears to be using the tactic of work from the office 5 days a week as a way to passively lay off a part of their workforce. On the other hand, companies that are doing well are alright with employees WFH 2 or even 3 days per week.

I recall that in the aftermath of the SingHealth leak of patients' personal data, their then Senior IT Manager sent an email to his subordinates: "Once we escalate to management, there will be no day no night". Well, he had all the time in the world after he was fired for trying to keep the lid on the incident.

The employer gets to save on office rental by "hot desking" with part of his workforce WFH on any given day.

I know of some employees who are more productive WFH, while others take remote working as opportunities to run errands, meet friends for lunch, take care of elderly parents/young children or watch Netflix at home. I notice more people casually dressed out and about on weekdays whenever I am on leave.
