Israeli strikes target Hezbollah-linked financial association in Lebanon. Israel has carried out air strikes targeting branches of a financial association linked with Hezbollah in the southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital Beirut, as well as the south and east of the country.
There were chaotic scenes in parts of Beirut late on Sunday, as people tried to get to areas that they thought would be safer and multiple explosions were heard. Israeli military said it targeted money held by Al-Qard Al-Hassan Association (AQAH). It offers financial services to civilians in areas where Hezbollah has strong support, but Israel and the US accuse it of being a cover for the Iran-backed group to fund its activities.

Just 200 Meters Away: Houthi Missile Nearly Struck a Navy Aircraft Carrier. Oct 22, 2024.
Earlier this year, a missile launched by the Iranian-backed Houthi militia came dangerously close to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), missing carrier by just 200 meters while it was operating in the Red Sea. Missile incident, ccurred in June 2023, highlighted the growing capabilities of the Houthis in targeting U.S. naval assets. Although the missile did not hit the carrier, it emphasized the persistent threat and the need for heightened vigilance. A
similar close calls were reported, including a January incident involving a missile that nearly struck the USS Gravely (DDG-107).
Might not have been enough to sink, or perhaps even cripple the Nimitz-class nuclear-power supercarrier, but can still have caused considerable damage & likely resulted in a significant loss of life. A too Close for Comfort for the Navy.

Iran has vowed an “appropriate response” to Israel’s strikes on the country, but said it does not want a wider war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attack severely damaged Tehran’s defenses, without providing further details.
• Meanwhile, Gaza hostage and ceasefire negotiations have resumed, the first high-level talks in two months. Egypt, which helps mediate between Hamas and Israel, is proposing an initial two-day ceasefire and exchange.
• At least 30 medical staff members were detained during Israeli raids at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, according to the enclave’s health ministry. The head of the World Health Organization called attacks on health care “deplorable,” and said Israel’s military has created “catastrophic” conditions in the north of the strip.
• In Israel, first responders said at least one person was killed and more than 30 injured after a truck rammed a bus near a military base north of Tel Aviv, in what Israeli authorities said was a deliberate attack.
