How Israel & allied defenses intercepted more than 300 Iranian missiles & drones.

Almost all ballistic missiles & drones Iran launched at Israel in unprecedented attack late Saturday were intercepted & failed to meet their mark, to Israeli & American officials said, highlighting formidable, & multi-layered missile defense deployed by the two allied partners.

Most of the more than 300 Iranian munitions, the majority believed to have been launched from inside of Iran’s territory on a 5-hour attack, were intercepted b4 got to Israel, more than 1,100 miles (1,770 kilometers) from their launch points.

Israel’s said Sunday a “99%” of projectiles fired by Iran were intercepted by Israel & partners, only “a small number” of ballistic missiles reach Israel.

In total, around 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles & more than 120 ballistic missiles were launched at Israel by Iran overnight Sat & military said. In a call Sunday, US President Joe Biden told Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu a constituted a win for Israel as nothing of “value” was hit, a senior US administration official told CNN.

US officials said more than 70 drones and three ballistic missiles were intercepted by US Navy ships and military aircraft, without giving details of exactly what defenses were used to bring down the projectiles.

Israeli tanks pushed back into some areas of the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday which they had left weeks ago, while warplanes conducted air strikes on Rafah, the Palestinians’ last refuge in the south of the territory, killing and wounding several people, medics and residents said.

Reuters reports that residents said there had been an internet outage in the areas of Beit Hanoun and Jabalia in northern Gaza. Tanks advanced into Beit Hanoun and surrounded some schools where displaced families have taken refuge, said the residents and media outlets of the militant Palestinian group Hamas.

“Occupation soldiers ordered all families inside the schools and the nearby houses where the tanks had advanced to evacuate. The soldiers detained many men,” one resident of northern Gaza told Reuters via a chat app.

Beit Hanoun, home to 60,000 people, was one of the first areas targeted by Israel’s ground offensive in Gaza last October. Many families who had returned to Beit Hanoun and Jabalia in recent weeks after Israeli forces withdrew, began moving out again on Tuesday because of the new raid, some residents said.

Palestinian health officials said in one strike, Israel killed four people and wounded several others in Rafah, where over half of Gaza’s 2.3 million people are sheltering and bracing for a planned Israeli ground offensive into the city, which borders Egypt.

The Israeli military said its forces continued to operate in the central Gaza Strip and that they had killed several gunmen who attempted to attack them. “Furthermore, over the past day, IDF fighter jets and aircraft destroyed a missile launcher along with dozens of terrorist infrastructure, terror tunnels, and military compounds where armed Hamas terrorists were located,” it added.

In Al-Nusseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, residents said Israeli planes had bombed and destroyed four multi-storey residential buildings on Tuesday.

Israel weighs response to Iran attack. Netanyahu says Israel will make its "own decisions" on responding to Iran.

Washington will impose new sanctions on Tehran after Iran's unprecedented barrage of aerial strikes on Israel over the weekend, most of which were intercepted.

Israel’s war cabinet has ended a fifth meeting to discuss its response to the attack. It's still unclear how Israel will respond, but the US expects Israel’s reaction will be limited in scope, sources told

CNN.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned that the "slightest" attack by Israel on Iran will be "dealt with fiercely and severely."

Meanwhile, the UN human rights chief is urging governments to do everything they can to stop the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as nearly 1.7 million displaced people remain "living in appalling conditions and under constant threat."

Netanyahu spoke after meeting with the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom and Germany today and speaking to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday.

“I thank our friends for their support for the defense of Israel… They also have all kinds of suggestions and advice, I appreciate it, but I want to make it clear: We will make our own decisions, and the state of Israel will do everything necessary to defend itself,” Netanyahu said.

On Gaza: Netanyahu also said that the govt will approve a plan for rehabilitation of settlements surrounding Gaza at a cost of some $5 billion.

“We will invest in housing, infrastructure, education, employment, medicine and more. The Hamas terrorists wanted to uproot us — we will uproot them and take root,” Netanyahu said.

Satellite images show tent compound construction in south Gaza ahead of possible Rafah op. Israel says it is not behind growing development of tents in Khan Younis, but preparations for the long-stalled invasion of Rafah seem to be underway.

At times, US have indicated they’d be prepared to accept IDF offensive in Rafah if Israel did manage to safely evacuate civilians there & care for their humanitarian needs. In his latest comments, Miller rejected notion US could support a major Rafah invasion.

Washington argued a large-scale military offensive in Rafah can put Palestinians sheltering at risk, wreak havoc on Gaza’s main humanitarian located in southern Gaza, further isolate Israel internationally without actually boosting security.

Instead, it's pushing for Israel to pursue more targeted ops against Hamas leaders in Rafah.

Israel argues, it cannot defeat Hamas without launching major offensive in Rafah to dismantle terror group’s, who remaining battalions there, only launch invasion after it evacuates civilians in city, ensures they’ll be able to continue receiving humanitarian aid upon relocation coordinates with Egypt, who borders Rafah expressed significant alarm over a potential operation.

Last week, Israeli and US officials held a second virtual meeting about the potential IDF operation in Rafah.

Some Hamas officials are signaling that the militant group could give up armed struggle against Israel if the Palestinians get an independent state in territories captured by Israel in the 1967 war.

The messaging suggests a softening of Hamas’ position as its fate hangs in the balance with Israel’s pummeling of the Gaza Strip, which Hamas ruled before the war. The Palestinian militant group has long called for the Jewish state to be destroyed.

Basem Naim, an Istanbul-based member of Hamas’ political bureau, told CNN on Thursday that the group would agree to disarm if an independent Palestinian state was established.

If an independent state with its capital in Jerusalem, while preserving the right of return for refugees, (is created) Al Qassam could be integrated into (a future) national army,” he said, referring to the group’s armed wing.

Hamas has traditionally rejected a two-state solution that would see a Palestinian state established alongside Israel and has instead advocated the creation of a Palestinian state in all of historic Palestine that today encompasses Israel, the occupied West Bank, occupied East Jerusalem and Gaza.

Mustafa Barghouti, President of the Palestinian National Initiative, said he wasn’t aware of Hamas offering to lay down its arms before, but said it would be a significant move if true.

“It’s significant in the sense that Palestinians are resisting occupation because there is an occupation,” he told CNN. “If the occupation is not there, they don’t need to resist it,” he said, referring to Israel’s military control of territories captured in 1967, where millions of Palestinians live.

Offer criticized as PR stunt
Efraim Inbar, president of the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, said the demand for Palestinian refugees’ return to their ancestral homes in what is today Israel would be a non-starter as it would amount to “the destruction of the state of Israel” where Jews form a majority.

He characterized Hamas’ offer as a public relations stunt aimed at Western nations.

“They see there’s a lot of support in the Western world (for Palestinians) & they try to show they’re the good guys, & Israel are bad guys, Israel will say no, as US and European states may use this to ask Israel “to give them a chance,” but Israel is likely to take the gesture “with a grain of salt.”
