4h ago: Qatar condemns Knesset’s labelling of UNRWA a ‘terrorist organisation’
The response from Doha comes a day after Israel’s parliament gave preliminary approval to a bill that would give the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency the label. The bill was approved in a first reading and sent to a committee for further deliberation. It is the latest move by Israel to sanction the agency. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, called the bill a “flagrant violation of international laws and norms, and an extension of the systematic campaign that aims to disband the agency, at a time when there is an increasing need for its humanitarian services due to the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip”.

Complicating Yemen." Children and teens among 12 dead in Golan Heights attack that Israel blames on Hezbollah, raising fears of major escalation. Israel said it had identified “approximately 30 projectiles” crossing from Lebanon into Israeli territory in a barrage it blamed on the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and described as the deadliest against it since October 7. Hezbollah has said it “firmly denies” firing the rockets.

The attack risks significantly escalating the situation at the countries’ border, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office vowing Hezbollah will “pay a heavy price.” Israel and Hezbollah have been trading fire across the demarcation line for almost 10 months with increasing ferocity and even before Saturday’s attack regional leaders had been warning the conflict is reaching a boiling point.

In addition to the 12 deaths, at least 29 people were injured in the attack in Majdal Shams, a village that is home to a large Druze community.
Some 20,000 Druze Arabs live in the Golan Heights, an area Israel seized from Syria in 1967 during the Six-Day War and annexed in 1981.

BEIRUT: The US is leading a diplomatic dash to deter Israel from striking Lebanon's capital Beirut or major civil infrastructure in response to a deadly rocket attack on Golan Heights, five people with knowledge of the drive said. Washington is racing to avert a full-blown war between Israel and the Iranian-backed Lebanese movement Hezbollah after the attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan killed 12 youths at the weekend, according to the five people who include Lebanese and Iranian officials plus Middle Eastern and European diplomats.

Israel and the US have blamed Hezbollah for the rocket strike, though the group has denied responsibility. The focus of the high-speed diplomacy has been to constrain Israel's response by urging it against targeting densely populated Beirut, the southern suburbs of the city that form Hezbollah's heartland, or key infrastructure like airports and bridges, said the sources who requested anonymity to discuss confidential details that haven't been previously reported.

Hamas said its political chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed in “a treacherous raid on his residence in Tehran”.
