There are always surprises in a war. Present war uses a lot of new and sophisticated technology.
Tunnel fighting is 17th-century technology. Unless Hamas has updated the tunnel technology and incorporated sophisticated modern technology, they are always at a disadvantage.

Today, one can easily use multi-frequency ultrasonic scans to find cavities beneath the surface of the earth. Quite sure, it will not be difficult for Israelis army to locate and trace Hamas's tunnels quickly from the earth's surface or a certain distance above the ground using drones or equivalent. As to what they will do after is something we will find out.
