#1

Reporting from Kompas.id (16/2/2023), Suharto then ruled for more than three decades through six elections in 1973, 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993 and 1998. However, the economic crisis that triggered thousands of students to control the MPR/DPR building in May 1998 forced Suharto to resign from his position as president on May 21, 1998.

He has been named as a defendant in a corruption case involving seven foundations he founded.  The seven foundations are the Independent Prosperity Fund Foundation, the Supersemar Foundation, the Social Dharma Bhakti Foundation (Dharmais), the Karya Bhakti Endowment Fund Foundation (Dakab), the Pancasila Muslim Amal Bhakti Foundation, the Humanitarian Mutual Fund Foundation, and the Trikora Foundation.
