some 60 per cent of Vietnamese vocabulary is of Chinese origin and the parts of China that are closest to Vietnam are the Cantonese-speaking regions of Guangxi and Guangdong. A person who knows Cantonese will be struck by the many Vietnamese words that sound similar, such as nguyen lieu (“raw materials”, yuen liu in Cantonese) and dac biet (“special”, dac beet in Cantonese).

They use the word 公安. It's is the same as police.

Not sure about that, but the founder of ROC Dr Sun Yat Sen was Cantonese and he hired all the Cantonese as his top men, so called “Cantonese Gang”, initially the capital of ROC was in Canton and later moved to Nanjing. After Dr Sun passed away, CKS took over and he hired all the people from his hometown near Ningbo and Zhejiang province.

Not true, Southern China was home of varies of Yue people before First Emperor sent Han troops from northern China conquer them, there were hundred of tribes of Yue. So called 百越。Nan Yue occupied Northern Vietnam, Guangdong and Guangxi. Min Yue covered Fujian. There are also Zhejiang and Jiangsu people who were also part of Yue but spoke entirely different dialect from Cantonese. There is also Gan Yue, people live in Jiangxi and Hunan.
