How Lion Dance reflects our vibrant multi cultural society
#1

Everywhere I see lion dance, I notice that the group performing is always multi racial with many non Chinese taking up participating even though it has its origins in Chinese culture.

It's a wonderful reflection of our harmonious multi racial society where people adopt each others culture to enrich themselves.

Our diversity is indeeed our strength .

It's a reflection of the serious manpower shortage we are facing.

They are paying Bangla's $10 an hour to bang the drums and cymbals and swing the dragon tails.

These days, all sorts of characters also have. The emperor in wheel chair plays music, Lions, Dragons, Wu Kong, Xuanzang... should have Bajie, and the sand demon Sha Wujing.

Please do not mislead and misinformed. These are members who have joined and trained to learn various aspects of lion dance out of their own interest.

You think lion dance so simple can just hire foreigners put on custom and dance. You are badly mistaken.

Dun be mislead with multi cultural bullshit.. These same people probably from organized societies also perform in Chinese funerals (those tong tong chiang type) where the money for such service is very lucrative. It is a niche market there actually.     Big Grin

I notice lots of young Malay teenagers - boys and girls - in these lion dance troupes. That is great for SG's racial harmony, but it seems that not all Muslims are thrilled with their participation; many are against it on religious grounds.
