30 years ago when Eastern Europe de-Communized and our Soviet Socialist Republics declared independence, we let them go because you, the United States, promised us that you would not expand NATO a single inch to the east. You were lying. For 30 years we sat and watched as you added 15 of our neighbours to your alliance and brought your bases and missiles closer and closer to our borders. You are breathing down our necks. We did nothing. Now, Ukraine is too much. We are standing up. Ukraine in NATO is an existential threat to Russia. Give me a permanent, legally binding promise (a TREATY) that you will never expand NATO to Ukraine and that you will never expand NATO further east again whatsoever, and I will remove my troops. Otherwise I will be forced to take military measures.
