How come Hokkien and Cantonese are common dialects in Singapore. You go market or kopitiam those old aunties and uncles communicate in hokkien and/or Cantonese but not in other dialects. Starhub cable tv and Singtel mio tv show Taiwan Hokkien drama and Hong Kong Cantonese drama never see them show other dialects drama such as Teochew, Hakka, Sze Yup, hokchew, shanghainese and Heng hua drama etc.

Hokkien is the largest group in SG, >40%

Cantonese is due to the influx of Malaysians and also HK media

Many of us learn Cantonese from the HK dramas on TV which were very popular back then until LKY put a stop to them.

Nowadays youngsters don't really know Cantonese unless their parents or grandparents speak it at home.
