Gen Zen: How to spot 'energy vampires' and avoid getting sucked into conversations with them during Chinese New Year

An enlarged ego and a tendency to exaggerate, whine and complain are some traits of energy vampires. So how can you deal with them?

This is an apt description of my ex-boss who wanted every subordinate in the office to kowtow to him, listen to his stories about himself and his "achievements" - often over 5 hours during the fortnightly management meetings. The focus of every conversation was on himself.  He was so insecure that he needed validation from every employee. It was draining having to deal with such an insecure boss 5 days per week.
