How to tell off people who raise issues on social media - and how to respond to them

1. You are only making matters worse (Worse for me? Or you?)

2. This is too sensitive an issue for you to raise in public. (Are we talking defence secrets? )

3. It is sensitive because it will hurt some people. (I will now only talk about things that make everyone happy)

4. Why don’t you leave it to us instead of making noise? (But are you actually doing anything?)

5. Are you trying to be populist/popular? (Is that something only YOU can be?)

6. You shouldn’t speak because you don’t have the full picture (But I haven’t even been able to get the full picture; getting stone-walled!)

7. You should appreciate the many good things instead of kpkb about small matters that don’t affect the national interest (It might not affect the national interest but it does affect the particular individual/s - or is that too much me-first?)

8. You shouldn’t bring up your personal issues in public and think this will add pressure. (But why not? It’s a free country…no?)

9. You should talk to us privately instead of making it a public drama. (Will you take me seriously if I don’t make it a public drama?)

10. Of course, we are aware. There’s no need for you to bring it up. We’re already doing something (Next time, can let us know first?)

11. You are courting controversy. We want a boring country where everything ticks in a stable and orderly manner. (So long as it is really the case that everything is ticking properly.)

12. You are wasting our time by asking too many questions and bringing up issues that most people don’t even care about (Maybe it’s because they should care about them…but of course that’s only my opinion - which I am entitled to voice)

13. You are only inflaming passions - even if you are telling the truth. (Ok. I will self-censor.)

14. Why do you delight in causing us embarrassment? What is your agenda? All the good things we do get unappreciated but one small thing gets blown out of proportion. Don’t forget that we should trust professionals to do their job instead of having them worry about social media. So don’t cast aspersions! You yourself might have a skeleton in the closet! And you definitely won’t know all the ins-and-outs, implications and complications. Only WE would have all the info, We already have a hard time as it is beyond trying to settle your tiny issue. So shaddup and sit down. (Okay. Have a good day. Thank you for listening)

15. Don't try to mislead people. (Oh. POFMA. I am so sorry. I retract everything)
