How to win at trading? My sifu gave this advise and showed me his money from trading.
#61

What is the one thing you would tell someone who wants to trade for a living? I asked my sifu.

He gave a deep thought and told me. Throw away your old outdated beliefs in trading.

What do you mean? I asked.

He told me when he first met his sifu, he faced this problem on how to trade profitably. His sifu asked him how much he expect to earn from his investment per year. He replied around 5-10% per year. Then his sifu asked how much money he has. He say around $100k. Then his sifu tell him, he better quit. How can he survive, if he can only earn $10k from his $100k.

Wow... I exclaimed. Quite true.

But I did not quit. I asked him, how do I trade with little money.

His sifu told him, don't believe what you know. Build on what you can develop for yourself.

His sifu advise him to throw away your old beliefs. See below
1) Throw away the limiting beliefs you can only get 5-10% return per year.
2) You don't need big money to make decent profits for a living.
3) You don't need charts or even fundamental analysis to trade.

Huh...these 3 beliefs are what many investors are told to follow. I told sifu.

I have to start from nothing. He smiled. Starting with point 3. No charts or fundamental analysis.

Wah lau, I have always used charts for trading. Now you tell me they are useless? I exclaimed.

I can only tell you, you don't need them. He laughed.

Not possible to trade without looking at charts. I told sifu.

He laughed. I don't even look at what happens or read the news to trade. In fact, I don't even need to see the price or press the button to buy or sell.

Fully automated trading. He explained.

But... Still you say you don't need the charts to trade. Does your system use charting techniques such as technical analysis? I asked.

When I first started, my sifu told me not to use charts. Sifu answered. I was totally blown away. I spent several months thinking about it. I don't know where to begin. I wondered, if it is even possible.

Finally, I found an answer how to trade without using charts, but to get where I am today in automated trading takes more than just the asking questions. He smiled.

No, my automated trading do not use charts or technical analysis. He whispered.

It takes more work. Certainly more than anyone who only keep looking at what he knows to find the answer. He expressed his frustration.

Many wannabe traders knows only what they know and try to work on it. As if you try this technical analysis, it did not work, you add on another technical indicator and see if it work. I saw that happening too many times.

Also, many give up before they find the answer. I was glad sifu told me not to use charts. Sifu added.

That is why I don't see many traders will advance to where I am today. He laughed. They simply give up.

Would u give up? He asked.

No one has offer such transparency in trading. I told sifu.

Very few traders would allow you to see their daily trades and see for yourself whether their trades work or not. Sifu concur.

It is such unbelievable record that I have decided to show you that it is possible. He explained. Else, you would have brush it off saying it is impossible.

Not only that, you mentioned you don't even use charts. I really don't know how to do it. I told him.

Now that you know that a high win rate and high returns are possible, it is up to you whether you want it or not. He asked me.

You mean anyone can do it? I asked.

Anyone can do what I did, but whether they want it badly enough to keep at it until they get it. He smiled.

There are many who tried and fail. There are those who never fail because they never try. Then there are those who just want to hitch a ride. Sifu told me.

Only those who keep trying (i.e trading) will win big. He added.

So how long you try trading before you can trade profitably. I asked him.

Years, I tried for years before I see any results. He replied. By that time my sifu already left me.

I don't expect you to succeed in a short time. In fact, it's better you fail fast and fail often. He smiled.

Why do you wish I fail? I am puzzled.

Because you will learn more when you fail. He smiled.

Also, I may not be the best teacher for you. He smiled again.

Your trading results is impressive. I would like to learn how to do it. I told him. Unfortunately, I don't get it. What you said so far, seems too chim.

That is why I may not be suitable to teach you. He hinted.

I seem to get the drift, sifu will not be around soon. I wondered. Maybe I am too dumb to know what he teach that is why he don't want to teach me.

I have taught you much more than what my sifu taught me. It is up to you to make use of it. He laughed.

Another update with winnings on 26 Jan. I told sifu.

I wondered if sifu will give me his trading system for free. No harm asking right? I asked him

Hmm..... how do the students excel beyond what the teachers know? He asked me.

Well, the students learns the basics from the teacher. Then the students studies more and push the boundaries to make themselves better. I answered.

Correct. Else all the professors in universities will be the smartest and perhaps the richest people in the world. He smiled.

I don't believe in spoon feeding students. In fact, even my current trading system is not good enough. He remarked.

Why is your trading system at win rate 98% not good enough? I asked.

It is not about the win rate. He answered.

Anyone will be happy with such a high win rate. I told him.

Agree, but that is not the point. He shake his head.

In any system, there is always something better. I don't think my system is on par with the best. It is simply too.... sifu was lost in thought.

I don't understand. I told him.

I hope to see the day you can develop a system better than mine. He smiled. Else, all this knowledge I had passed to you would have gone to waste.

How to beat 98% win rate? I asked.

Didn't I say its not about the win rate. He laughed.

What happens after you enter a trade? I asked sifu

Well, it will either make money or lose money. Sifu laughed.

But surely there are doubts when the price move against you, do you close your position first? I asked

There are always doubts when you trade. Not all trade entries you can confidently say it will be profitable. He smiled.

But your trades are getting 98% win rate. It is a huge boost in confidence when it comes to trading. I told him

Huh... Win rate again? He commented. It is not just about win rate.

But it helps when it comes to trading. I defended.

You need to learn more. Sifu shakes his head

Another day of profits. I exclaimed. Shiok lah.

Not everyday is going to be so smooth with all wins. Sifu replied. In fact, I worry more after a string of wins.

Huh? Why? I asked.

There is no system that can keep generating all wins. Which is why I say don't just look at win rate. He answered.

So, you are expecting losses? I asked.

Losses are part of doing this trading business. He smiled. Many just look at wins and want to keep on winning.

In fact, we should welcome losses. It brings us back to reality on what is trading. How to handle losses is what distinguish great traders from wannabes traders. He laughed.

I want to win only. I admitted. But even a small percentage of losses is acceptable.

That my friend is what my trading system is geared towards. He laughed. But i stressed, it is still not about win rate.

I would be happy if I can win above 90% per trading day. I answered.

Then how do you deal with the 10% losses? What type of losses is it about? Sifu asked.

I don't know. I answered.

Remember my first 3 trading rules? He asked.

Oh yeah.. referring to my notes. I almost forgotten about it. I answered.

Then you better study harder. He laughed. My rules are the foundations to build my trading system.

Why do you want to post my trades? Sifu asked.

To document your trades. I answered. Also, I don't mind sharing what I learn so that others can benefit.

Even though there are many things you taught that I don't understand. I replied

Having knowledge is important. Willing to share and give is more important. The world has become a better place when we share. Sifu smiled.

Tell me something about your trading learning journey. I asked.

My sifu did not share much. He showed me what is possible and ask me to figure it out. Sifu answered. We can better internalise our learning through learning on our own. My sifu has said, we are our best teachers and our worst enemy.

Questioned everything. Ask why can't I trade better. Find out what is your weakness and I don't mean weakness in your trading strategies. There are much more to trading than just staring at the computer screen after you enter a trade. Sifu noted.

You mentioned you don't even need to see the trades at all to enter or exit. I added.

Algo trading has pushed my trading strategies beyond what my own sifu taught me. He would be proud. Sifu smiled.

But I am a below average trader. Can I be like you? I asked.

Didn't I showed you its possible. He laughed again.

My sifu laughed. He asked me how do you know, they did not lose money? If they are making tons of money from trading, why would they share their success techniques. Since the news have reported about scams lately, he told me we should be wary about scams. The 2 most important points in scams is

1. They will entice you with a hook. A hook to bait you on how to make easy money. In trading, its about showing you can make money. Just like a thread like this. Lol
2. They will show you only profitable trades. Giving a false impression that its all profits and no losses.

Sifu added that he can help me by showing his trades, but first he told me, my trades are confidential, it is my trade secret, I cannot show everything. Also, I don't want you to follow my trades. It serves you no purpose. It is not about showing you the money. It is about knowing what to expect from trading.

Tell me what you learn from trading. By sharing what you learn, it will make me share more. He laughed.

LOL isn't this is what Everyone knows.

Cool 202% return over 12 days traded. I exclaimed.

Impossible, if I had not seen it. Over and over again the profits kept on coming. I told sifu.

Why is it that you are not satisfied. I asked.

It is one thing to see profits, it is another to know that it will continue. He smiled.

No system is perfect. There are many times, I thought my system is perfect only to see if failed miserably. It is during such times, that I know I have yet to master trading. He added.

You are now at 99% win rate. I told him. Isn't it enough?

I would be happy to see my win rate at 90%. I lamented. But it will never go there.

Study the market. Make it your lifelong mission. It is never easy, else no one needs to work anymore. He laughed.

This is getting too difficult. I told sifu.

I keep seeing you profiting and I still have no head or tail what is going on. Can I request for a live trading session? I asked.

Why? Sifu asked.

I wanted to see how your system trade by itself and clock in profits daily. I am totally at lost how you do it. I replied.

Sifu gave a long pause. He looked at me and say ok but with conditions.
