Infectious disease specialist and chairman of the Singapore Democratic Party Paul Tambyah in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 28) was critical of the government’s management of the Covid pandemic, which has made things difficult for Singaporeans.

Dr Tambyah, the president-elect of the International Society for Infectious Diseases, posted an excerpt from SDP’s “Sensible and Foresighted Plan to Exit the Covid Pandemic,” which the party published on its website yesterday.

He included the following:

“The handling of the Covid-19 pandemic by the Government’s Multi-Ministerial Task Force has been plagued with a distinct lack of coherence and direction. This has left Singaporeans confused and frustrated.

The lack of a clear strategy in dealing with the pandemic has also left businesses unable to plan ahead. The reactive nature of the MMTF’s approach in dealing with outbreaks of infections has led to stop-start, on-again/off-again policies which had impacted adversely on both employers and employees.”

SDP also held a question-and-answer portion on Facebook live, wherein Dr Tambyah said, “We felt that we needed a sensible plan that actually showed a way out.”

Dr Tambyah is part of SDP’s healthcare panel of ten medical professionals who drafted the eight-point plan.

Many commenters praised SDP’s pandemic exit strategy online.

Some commented to say they hope the current MTF will listen and take the different points in the plan into consideration.

Others asked if Dr Tambyah and other qualified people could be part of national decision-making.

One said that the SDP chair should even lead the task force.

Paul Tambyah is a very knowledgeable person by his recognised profession. He shd be included in MTF for the benefits of all Singaporeans., the present MTF group are totally lost, confused and very misleading at times.

It is good that the  govt. make wearing a face mask mandatory, so that infected ones do not pass on the virus to healthy ones.

Before we say he is a joke, how many other experts out there made similar wrong judgement? Need to call all of them a joke as well??

Cannot be just because he is from SDP that's why call him a joke, but all other experts who made similar wrong judgement, we don't call them a joke.

1. I have served the nation in a combat unit for 2.5 + 10 years. I had fulfilled my duty as a citizen, but has the country do it's part for me?
2. I don't know where the threat of CCP is, but I know the threat of CECA is already at my doorsteps
3. I had been called a CCP, JHK, Pinoy, but they never called me a CECA..

Then you need to say Sweden is a joke as well, coz they practice herd immunity.. No one need to wear mask, whether healthy or not..

I remember some ministers also say no need to wear mask during initial outbreak, need to call them a joke as well?

That was by WHO guidelines at the juncture of covid breakout. Most countries follows WHO guideline on this except Taiwan. Many countries never believed that covid is much more ferocious than SARS.

Even ah Loong also talked on media that no need to wear mask unless one is sick. So, is he a joker as well?

Cannot say that wearing a face mask only if you are sick, but need to also wear a mask when one is healthy.  WHO is wrong to advise that not sick don't need to wear mask, now we know that WHO and some ministers here are wrong.

When they announced healthy no need wear mask it was already known that this virus spread fast. It is just common sense to wear a mask, or at least do not discourage people from wearing one. I still remember that they strictly prohibited airport staff from wearing mask even if the staff want to wear one using their own supply.

When one does not exercise judgment and blindly follow, then he is stupid.

I dun see how one can come out with an exit strategy when.the "cure" has not been found yet.

Even after the cure has been found, an exit strategy shud be established at UN level and the whole world works together to get out of this shxt together. One country alone cannot get out of this pandemic  unless it chose to be closed border to other countries. If want to open border and  open economy then the whole world must work together and exit together. Even if one country is still infected, the whole world is not out of the wood yet........ Rolleyes

He is right there is a need of more sensible plan but his team proposal does not
address large number of people reluctance to take the vaccine.
No proposal how to reduce adverse effects, or deploy alternate solution like nasal sprays.

His team propose not to spend time testing on vaccinated is a repeat of govt mistake.

We need better plan.

I opine the best plan now is to CB again to kerb the spread. Talking about open the economic, if cases keep going up, you think foreigners will want to come meh? Besides, controlling people lunching out also wont help business. Might as well go back to CB like the very first time

And the only right thing to do is wear mask. Surprisingly it is from the people here who F...k them and said mask must be wore.

Wonder if pap dog or the prof said it first I think it is the former than latter.
