I helped elderly neighbor to buy CPAP machine ..some tips
#1

Neighbor had a  heart attack at age 65 but continued working after recovery. He is 69 yo this year.

Because he has serious sleep problems problem called sleep apnea and stops breathing at night and snore until choke at night, the doctor recommend getting a machine to aid him to breathe better. He was given a list of recommend sellers/machines to buy to help with this problem. These.machiens are called CPAP machine.

Because the couple cannot read English they asked me to help With the purchase. I called up to find the available options on the recommended list the machine range from $2500 to $4K. The accessory like a simple breathing mask that is part of the device cost $500.

Obviously the hospital (govt hospital) looked for the best of the best to put on recommend list. I did a check of how these machines work and they are quite simple. Why they are so expensive is because they are medical devices and the branded one will charge a high premium.

I check online on n this issue. In fact it's a common problem and actually many people use such  machines....and the cheaper alternatives works exactly the same as the expensive ones that cost 5 times the price.

This machine has hundreds of Singaporean buyers and cost just a fraction.

Dun see how that machine helps breathing by wearing a mask when the choke is caused by the tongue and upper palette relax and close the air passage while asleep. I saw a medical documentary that recommend a small tube like object to keep the air passage open while asleep which sounds practical.

Further how to fall asleep with a mask on the face?....... Thinking

90% of sleep apnea cases are solved with cpap machines.
other solutions work only on a small minority.

snoring and apneais caused by fatty build up behind throat that get blocked due to tongue and throat muscle relaxing during sleep.

cpap applies positive air pressure to keep passage open...

if u have snoring problem please do not delay getting solved as it leads to complications later.

a simple cpap machine remove risk to health.

people should be educated and use this.

Don't play play.   These are medical equipment that will need some certifications.  Better check with the ENT specialists if you want to help purchase a cheap,  good and reliable machine. Poor quality could make things worse.  Here is some help from an ENT doctor.  They might be able to help and check if the insurance coverage will also help to cover the cost of the machine etc

If you understand how CPAP works its like saying your belt holding up your pants need a certification or a walking stick need certification .

The cheaper one is certified and used by several million People....in China. It is already quite popular among budget conscious Singaporeans.

But if so concerned and money is no issue go ahead and get the $3000 one.

You are saying that thing is capable of blowing air into the mouth with pressure strong enough to keep that throat open. Like that how to breathe out with a strong inward blowing air? So can suffocate the patient or not?..... Thinking

As you said this machine blows air into the throat to keep the passage open while the patient is asleep and no longer in control. So it has to be a very precision and reliable piece of machine that needs high standard of quality control. So it is rather dangerous too look around and buy equipment that cost only a fraction of the high quality ones. This is medical equipment and not a piece of bicycle pump where you look for the cheapest and can sell the highest price here. Dun think you will look online for a heart peacemaker if you are to use it. If this machine goes haywire in the middle of the night, you might find a blown up balloon size human dead on the bed.

You claimed several million people in China are using this cheap piece you bought and this information you found out from your Virtual travel is it?...... Thinking
