That is a very good point.

CPIB should be independent
...why do they need to get go ahead from PM

PM Lee has to give approval for CPIB to investigate.
If he don't give approval investigation stops

What if the PM or President (in the future) is the one that is to be investigated? Who approve then? No need to investigate?

So who appoints CPIB head? The one that appoints the Head of CPIB will somehow give some advise and guidance to him/her. He can also sack the head of CPIB. So in the end come to square one.

sounds like conflict of interest.
HK ICAC can even investigate the CE.
CPIB performance really nothing compared to ICAC, KOM etc and now they let one of main suspects FLEE ? FISHY! Rotfl

Agree. Current PAP has managed SG into among most developed/richest in the world (despite lacking land and resource etc).
However Oppos are critical to check and balance for long term stability.
