There is really nothing Tan KL need to do to win this President election. PAP government has done such a terrible job that pissed off most common Singaporeans. Its is rotting internally, all their endorsed candidates (Preferred n backup) will not win this President Election.

Just a few PAP notable achievements.
1. Ownself Serve Ownself, Ownself check Ownself, Ownself cleared ownself and shamelessly Ownself praised n awarded Ownself.
2. GST 9% hike
3. High cost of living
4. High COE
5. High Petrol Price, Malaysia charged less than S$1per litre for unsubsidized Ron97 petrol. Singapore Ron 95 is S$2.85 per litre. Where does the S$1.85 per litre go?
6. Unaffordable property price
7. Singaporeans jobless in Singapore, a place Singaporeans serve National Service for generations, Foreigners n new citizens hv jobs, good paying jobs. Have they served National Service?
8. Extra marital affair delayed exposure
9. Corruption investigation
10. Ridout, is public cleared?
11. Keep drawing reserved, is there any reserves left? Who knows?
12. MAS reported over $38 billion lost. Such a huge lost and they issued few lines comment to close the lost
The first SMRT line was built with $5billion dollars. It was deeply n well debated over months b4 $5 billion spending was approved. Public deserved to know the details.

From Wiki:

Tan was close to Ong Teng Cheong, the fifth president of Singapore. When Ong was elected as President, Tan presented him a set of orchid motif ties in different colours, which were commissioned by NTUC Income and made in the United Kingdom.[32] Ong liked the tie in red color and used it on a number of important occasions, including Nomination Day and his inauguration as the president of Singapore.[32] He also wore it for his presidential portrait which was displayed in government offices and other organisations.[32]

Tan was involved in several initiative introduced by Ong, such as the Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT), the first Singapore expedition to Mount Everest, and the President's Star Charity. Tan promoted the SDT performances to the policyholders of NTUC Income and later joined the board of directors, where he served for 12 years.[33] NTUC Income became one of the main sponsors of the Mount Everest expedition.

During the last two years of Ong Teng Cheong's term, Tan chaired the President's Star Charity event to raise funds and to promote the Singapore Dress.[34] When Ong's wife died, shortly after the second charity dinner, Tan organised 1,000 messages of condolences from Singaporeans, submitted through the Internet, and presented the book to Ong.[35]
