The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) warned the public about recent cases of scammers impersonating IRAS personnel to trick the public into revealing their credit card details.

In a recent advisory, IRAS disclosed that they have received reports on suspicious calls made by scammers through WhatsApp.

The scammers would claim to be from IRAS and inform taxpayers that they were facing penalties for unpaid taxes.

Subsequently, the scammers would request taxpayers to verify their credit card details in order to "pay" for the penalty.
