It was a horrific murder of 4 college students Moscow Idaho.

The small town police came under great pressure as public interest and anxiety of the victims' family  caused  them to criticise the police casting doubt on their competence and ability to handle the case. Whole tragedy turned into a media circus. Internet sleuths to get views on their YouTube channels present all sorts of theories and suspects resulting in some people who are likely innocent  to be harassed. Parents of victims went public to say who they think should be investigated further and who should be cleared based on their own judgement. 

Only 50% of murders in US are solved. There are serial killer who are not caught after committing many cases of murder.

It is unrealistic to expect police to solve such crime quickly and putting pressure on them to do so can cause mistakes to be made and evidence to be missed.

If you think about it. Such a crime can be difficult to solve especially if the murder is careful not to leave clues. He enters the house unseen in wee hours, murder the 4 victims then get out unseen. He takes precautions like wearing gloves and commonly worn shoes without distinctive prints so he leaves no evidence. The police have to comb the crime scene to hope for some.evdence but if murderer is careful it is likely he leaves police with nothing.
The police can look for witnesses and camera to see if murderer is captured. If not, there is little they can go on. 

It is thus not surprising for such cases to go unsolved.

This obscure incel  theory worked on by the FBI is perhaps more probable than others.

There is a growing group of people with mental issues that have subscribed to this incel thinking and several killings have already occurred. Incels are socially unsuccessful members of the society who developed a strong hatred for socially successful. This hatred have driven several incels to killings often targeting socially successful members of society. Often the incels would.plan for very long these killings until their hatred get so strong thy eventually carry out the killing

Other plausible theories;

1. Serial killer theory. Another killing occurred a few months before this one involving an attacker who went to a couple's home to stab them. Husband died and woman lived. No know reason for the attack. Attacker was not caught. Experts point out most serial killers are involved in sexual attacks but there is no sign of this for this case


2. Crime of passion. A rejected lover or an acquaintance who was offended committed the murder. Some think it has to be a strong reason like a long term relationship.ending but such killings have taken place over smaller things like jealousy, not being invited to party, or a small.quarrel...
One side thinks its okay the other is deeply hurt.

Once murders go past 48 hours without a suspect it is usually a sign the case will be difficult to solve.
