......

Retirees turning 66, the minimum state pension age, have had to get by without the monthly payments despite making numerous calls to the Department for Work & Pensions to rectify the issue.

Gill Halstead, 66, who lives in France, had a 26-week wait for her state pension and said she felt her applications had been ignored for months.

......

she was still waiting for her payments despite having paid National Insurance for 47 years.

......

Last September, pensions minister Guy Opperman said “staffing issues” at the DWP had led to delays.

Sue Lockett, 68, said her sister was reduced to tears after a DWP official told her she “wouldn’t starve” and “there were plenty of food banks around” while she waited for £1,590 in overdue payments.
