Should be yes, race is still Chinese.

For example, lots of Blacks in the West have Anglo names (although nowadays more are turning to African names while their surnames remain anglicized) but they are still considered as Blacks in terms of race.

Is he partial or pure ethnic Chinese?
Thai decree in 1920 to have all minorities using Thai names if they want to register as Thai nationality.
So it is very hard to differentiate.
Official number of  Chinese is 10-14% putting them 2nd largest group.
Thai govt consider Thai Lao people as its sub group of Thai people else Chinese would be third.

40% Thais have Chinese blood. However Chinese Thais are mostly mixed with local Thais and assimilated to Thai society, which is different from the case in Malaya.

Is it Thai or Thais? Thai authority consider Thai Lao as sub group of Thais.
Perhaps also due to many have some Chinese lineage
and national religion is practiced by majority, thus discriminations are minimum.

First of all, let's get this clear. A Chinese could be Han, Uyghur, Tibetan, Mongolian, Manchurian, Hui, Bai, Dai, all 56 races of them.

Not all of them willl have a Han name like Oyk. If they are Uyghur, their names will not sound even remotely Han..
