....this is hardly the first time that large-scale violence has erupted between Israel and Hamas. Israel pummeled the Gaza Strip during 

1. Operation Cast Lead in December 2008, 
   
2. did it again in Operation Protective Edge in 2014, 
   
3. and then did so once more (on a smaller scale) in May 2021. 
   

These attacks killed several thousand civilians (perhaps a quarter of them children) and further impoverished the trapped population of Gaza, but they didn't bring us any closer to a lasting and just solution....this latest round of fighting is that Hamas achieved near-total surprise. The attack has clearly shocked Israeli society. The government's failure to detect or prevent the attack may eventually mark the end of Netanyahu's political career, and like the intelligence failure back in 1973, it is likely to lead to recriminations inside Israel that will reverberate for years

A warning from an American diplomat who was the former U.S. Ambassador to Israel :

Even a decisive Israeli military victory is unlikely to end the country’s increasingly perilous security challenges. It’s not even clear what “winning” means. “There’s no question Israel can inflict tremendous damage on Gaza—on its infrastructure and on its people—and can also target Hamas leaders,” Dan Kurtzer, a former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, told me. But movements regenerate, and “sometimes the next leadership turns out to be more radical, more extreme, than the one that was beheaded...”

Israel need to know to totally win is to wipe them all out just like Hitler tried but failed. If you cannot wipe them all out then it is just a matter of time those children will grow up to don on the uniform of their slain fathers and carry on the fight for next generation. Cycle that never end. So not sure if Israeli understand this simple logic or not.

HAMA is the primarily reason currently regards to why peace deal cannot be established. It is in HAMA policy that Israel must be eliminated thus as long as HAMA is not gone, there will never ever be peace, that is guaranteed.
