Responding to questions from young Singaporeans in The Straits Times’ Ask The Next President Anything show, he said he would be a president who would never be fooled on any matter to do with the reserves or on governance, due to his experience from his years as finance minister and deputy prime minister. With steady pair of hands as he painted a picture of an increasingly divided and unstable world, and a more complex and challenging future for Singapore.

(A word from me) As Singapore President, he have his workout for the next 6 years till 2029 with the new team then it all depend on his health lohh. 

This EP result showed voters did not see his years of political service as a disadvantage and did not hold it against him. His.“My on ground experience, my policymaking experience course with international experience have been a huge source of strength, and it wouldn’t have come about if I hadn’t spent 22 years in politics,” Tharman said.

Referencing to president’s role as the “second key” to the nation’s reserves, Mr Tharman said it was not a simple matter of deciding whether to turn it or not.

“You’ve got to understand the challenges Singapore faces, got to understand the revenue options, you’ve got to understand the spending priorities, both in normal times... (and) in crisis times.

“Understanding the ins and outs of the govt budget and budgets of the other public agencies concerned is invaluable knowledge and experience,” he added.
