JT is one of the most stupid ministers I've seen. What she just said is what her ministry's subordinates told her, but they have no idea what is AI actually.
Most AI engineers can be trained in 6 months. It's an industry that can be saturated really fast because the barrier to entry is so low. You can never beat the Chinese and the Indians and ultimately positions will be filled by them because they ask for cheaper salaries.

many ai tools are already developed. what's needed are low level workers to use them, much like those doing swab tests using test kits and inject vaccines already in the market. what's there to be excited about?

I agree with your findings....the Chinese and Indians are far cheaper to employ, thence our PMETs are disadvantage by this ......

Not only do I find her shameless for Josephine to ban truthful comments but such simple reporting can be done by any reporters. At least inform us of her plans how AI has been rolled out or the success rate for certain professions for locals.

Her job is actually quite easy, just need to look up the buzzwords in tech and then she can trumpet them, without any regard to the plausibility of tech sustainability.
Anyone of us can do that. It is common knowledge that AI is one of those buzzwords together with data analytics and blockchain (some time back). When the excitement over these technologies fizzled out (will happen shortly) then the government will exhort people to upgrade their skills, or blame them for not doing so.

Not just her.. Singapore's policy don't really have a clear direction..
I try comparing Singapore to South Korea..
In Singapore, we have GLC. In S. Korea, we have Chaebol. While our GLC is at most well known in the region, S. Korea Chaebol are well known worldwide..
In Singapore, none of our policy made it big.. In S. Korea, K pop is taking over the world, even Korea movies are now best sellers in Netflix..

1. I have served the nation in a combat unit for 2.5 + 10 years. I had fulfilled my duty as a citizen, but has the country do it's part for me?

Our structure is copied from UK and this Ministry of InfoTech was used in the 60s and 70s.
PAP is so out-dated and so LKK, worse than old man with walking cane.
Using this to protect another JLB using Nanny State as an excuse.
