US reconnaissance aircraft are said to have recently entered North Korean airspace, North Korea's defense ministry said in a statement released by state news agency KCNA. Pyongyang calls the action a provocative act of espionage.

The South Korean military denies that its neighbor's airspace was violated and says the US routinely conducts reconnaissance flights around the Korean peninsula.

Pyongyang also denounces that a US nuclear submarine recently entered the waters around the peninsula.

This brings a nuclear weapons conflict closer, according to North Korea. Allies South Korea and the US hold regular joint military exercises.
