Kevin Rudd is good at speaking Mandarin but his political strength is weak. My ex-Aussie boss also graduated with a degree in Chinese studies but never heard him speak a single word of Mandarin even in China. He subsequently became VP even MD of some hitech company.

Kevin turned himself from an arts student major in Chinese studies into a foreign minister position then PM. After he was outed out by his deputy he set up company as China matter expert.

Your Aussie boss is a waste of talent, after graduating with a degree in Chinese studies, but don't speak a word of Mandarin is absurd....

All he needed is a degree and studied something he liked. And now he is in senior management team in a company in Spore.

Kevin is a typical Anglo-Saxon Aussie racist, despite he speaks Chinese well and knows China better than many experts, he is not China friendly, on the contrary he worries China’s rise will destroy the U.S. and Anglo Saxon’s global order and domination, so he urged the U.S. take military reaction against China and all the western nations must join together to fight China’s rise and global influence.

You have to remember - Many AMTK who claimed to have learn Chinese or some other Asian language often like to claim their are "expert" in Asia.
The reality is often most got a pass for attending a foreign language course in some degree module.
Then after graduating and having secured their 1st job in China or other Asian countries, they will put that in their resume saying "excellent" in spoken Mandarin and understand Asian cultures and people etc etc...
Really meh ? Just look at how AMTK behave in SG.

Kevin works for Aussie institutions and places Anglo Saxon interest front and center in every one of his presentation and speech.
He forget that just because he can utter a few lines of Chinese proverbs does not make him a "China friendly" (ex) politician.
Non-Chinese speakers like Kishore Mahbubani, Jeffery Sach & Martin Jacques are some of the few intellects and academia who have more rational view on China than "Mandarin speaking" Mr Rudd.

Quote:Countries should unite against China's growing economic and geopolitical coercion or risk being singled out and punished by Beijing, former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has told the BBC.
Mr Rudd said governments in the West should not be afraid to challenge China on issues such as human rights.
Around the world, countries are navigating a new geopolitical order framed by the rising dominance of China.
"If you are going to have a disagreement with Beijing, as many governments around the world are now doing, it's far better to arrive at that position conjointly with other countries rather than unilaterally, because it makes it easier for China to exert bilateral leverage against you," Mr Rudd told the BBC's Talking Business Asia programme........
Mr Rudd, who led Australia twice between 2007 and 2013, has criticised the current government's approach to China, saying that it has been counterproductive at times.
"The conservative government's response to the Chinese has from time to time been measured - but other times, frankly, has been rhetorical and shrill," said Mr Rudd, who is now president of the Asia Society Policy Institute.
What he say no wrong. iz not anti-tiongkok even.

Expansionist ambitions in China's view is that they want to annex Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and other countries via the belt and road initiative.....One case in point is that Sri Lanka who is in debt when China helped to construct its port, they fell into China's debt trap, and now the port management is taken over by China. Also China is thinking of making that port a naval base............

Very convenient argument, isn't it ?
Now with Tiongkok re-emerging as a great power, AMTK now point fingers at the the Chinese accusing them of colonising others?
Fun Fact is AMTK avoid using the "C" word - replacing with "expansionist ambitions" label.
Sadly, that does not match with the reality - Are u aware the Africans are insulted by this same old Western hypocrisy ?
Maybe I share this photo from White Australia of 1900 will help inform you what is the REALITY:

Another weird comment from debono..who love to fake his identity as a SGreans after admitting he has zero education in SG's bilingual education.
Just let that sink in - Who will write such rubbish far removed from current reality ?
