LKY justified the quantum leap in the salaries of SG's ministers when he opined that the political landscape has shifted dramatically from the days of the old guard. They entered politics driven by strong convictions, but today's conditions are vastly different. LKY doubted that SG is able to attract younger talent when the sacrifices of the past generation seem less relevant in a more prosperous and socially changed SG. Unfortunately, LKY is correct because the govt today is made up of overrated, overhyped and overpaid individuals, motivated by all the wrong reasons to "serve" the people. The PAP's old guard reminds me of the Lions during Quah Kim Song's day who played for national pride. They were amateurs, but far more talented than the professionals of today who get paid a lot to get continually embarrassed on the international stage.
