Sabah and Sarawak were after talks and agreement on joining. Singapore also joined but quitted after some years later.     

Ryukyu was swallowed up by Japan through military force just like Korea. Ryukyu sent an official to Qing Emperor to ask for help.  

But Qing emperor was overwhelmed by own problems with western powers and ignored the request by Ryukyu. The official from Ryukyu even committed suicide outside Qing palace for failing to secure help by cutting his throat with his own sword.
