London takes aim at public urination with splash-back paint

UPDATED 36 MINS AGO

LONDON - A central London district famous for its nightlife, but also home to thousands of residents, is trying out a novel way to tackle the persistent problem of public urination with so-called anti-pee paint.

Officials in Soho – a warren of bars, restaurants, theatres and other entertainment venues as well as apartments and houses – are treating walls at nearly a dozen problem sites with the special spray-on liquid.

The industrial strength “surface protection” creates a transparent water-repellent layer that splashes back urine when it hits, providing instant payback for offenders.

When I was in London, many years ago, I wanted to pee, but the paying public toilet is out of order.  I had no choice but to go to the nearest PUB to pee.  The bartender demanded that I pay one British Pound for the use of the toilet.  imagine one pound to use a toilet...it is ridiculous........... Laughing

Not easy to find public toilets in London.

In 2011, a report found there were 393 local authority-maintained public toilets in the capital, down from 486 in 2000.

Across the UK, it is estimated that more than 1,700 public toilet facilities closed in the decade leading up to 2016.
