BN has no pact with PN to form new govt, says Zahid
PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional has denied claims by Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman Abang Johari Openg that BN had agreed to form a government with Perikatan Nasional.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition had never, to date, negotiated with GPS on this matter, nor has it held any talks with PN, the coalition led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

Political leaders in flurry of movement on forming new govt
KUALA LUMPUR: Political leaders were in a flurry of movement today as negotiations began on making alliances for the formation of a coalition federal government.
Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, whose coalition secured major gains at the elections, has been at the centre of attention earlier today as he held discussions with East Malaysian politicians.
Attention later turned to Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno party leaders, who held internal discussions in a meeting of the party’s political bureau.
In the evening, media crews descended on the home of Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim, in anticipation of the possible arrival of Zahid for rumoured discussions about a pact between BN and PH.
The political leaders have until 2pm tomorrow to finalise arrangements on forming a coalition government and to present a candidate for appointment as prime minister who would command a majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
An alliance between PN, BN, and the Borneo Bloc of Sabah and Sarawak politicians had been rumoured. There had also been talk of some BN leaders being in favour of a coalition with Pakatan Harapan.
On Sunday night, Anwar had stated that he had sufficient support for a majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
After media crews waited outside his home this evening, Anwar was seen in a video clip appealing to the media to exercise patience. The clip, by Astro Awani, was posted by Anwar on his Twitter account.
“Sorry for the long wait, my friends. I hope everyone can be patient and pray for the best for the country,” he said.
Muhyiddin Yassin’s home had been the scene of comings and goings of politicians, including those from East Malaysia, after Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman Abang Johari Openg had met Muhyiddin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang in the morning.
Johari said GPS had agreed to team up with PN, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah to form a coalition government.
However, his statement was repudiated by BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later in the evening. Zahid said BN had not held any discussions with PN or GPS about any pact towards forming a coalition government.
In the afternoon, seven vehicles carrying PN leaders were seen entering the Muhyiddin compound, Astro Awani reported. Among them was Sabah Progressive Party president Yong Teck Lee, who is also deputy chairman of Gabung Rakyat Sabah.
PAS leaders including party president Abdul Hadi Awang and his deputy Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were also present.
Later, seven vehicles with Sabah registration plates were seen leaving the compound at about 7pm and were believed to be carrying members of the Sabah coalition.
PN won 73 parliamentary seats at the general election, 39 seats short of a simple majority in the Dewan Rakyat. BN won 30 seats, GPS 22 and GRS 6. An alliance of the four blocs would give them a total of 131 seats, enough to form a stable government.
Pakatan Harapan won 82 seats. An alliance of PH and BH (30 seats) would give the coalition a simple majority of 112 seats, or 140 if GRS and GPS were included.

BN to decide BY TONIGHT whether to join Perikatan or Pakatan
KUALA LUMPUR— One day after the 15th general election, Malaysia still does not have a government with a hung Parliament the result of not a single political coalition having a commanding majority.
Barisan Nasional (BN) which was mauled badly at the polls is apparently deciding on which coalition — Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Perikatan Nasional (PN) — to partner up with to form the federal government.
Sources within Umno Supreme Council — Umno won 27 of the coalition’s 30 seats — confirmed there are ongoing talks with both PH and PN.
“Yes, there are talks with others, not just one,” said one source.
Another source also confirmed this, saying BN is still needed to help form a “stable government.”
“In the end, BN is still needed to make a stable government despite the small number of seats won,” the source told Malay Mail.
Umno postponed their Supreme Council meeting scheduled this afternoon after their Political Bureau meeting at noon.
Umno Supreme Council member and Sabah chief Datuk Seri Bung Mokhtar Radin told reporters that the political future of the party was discussed at the meeting.
“We have yet to decide (on forming coalitions). We will discuss more,” he told the media waiting at the lobby.
Earlier today, with Malaysia’s Parliament hung, the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong ordered coalition and party leaders to notify Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun of their numbers to form a new government by 2pm tomorrow.
He also told them to state clearly their respective prime minister candidates, Comptroller of the Istana Negara Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said in a statement this afternoon as the post-election impasse continued.

He also appeared to hint that he was able to draw on support from Barisan Nasional MPs, asserting that it was the constitutional right of any MP to back any person, even from a rival coalition, as prime minister.
Muhyiddin said the anti-hopping law did not apply to such MPs as they did not leave the party but only offered their support.
“The constitution states that a person who is to become the prime minister must hold the confidence of the majority of the Dewan Rakyat. It does not say (the support) must be from party A, B or C,” he said.
PN had won 73 seats in the general election, but Muhyiddin said on Saturday night he had secured enough support to become the prime minister.

The source said forming the government with Perikatan Nasional would see Umno playing “third fiddle” to PAS and Bersatu when it came to Malay interests. There is fear within Umno that it will cease to exist if this happens, the source said.
The source also said many BN MPs did not sign statutory declarations backing Muhyiddin Yassin as the prime minister, contrary to media reports.
“After two years in Muhyiddin’s government, Umno had already become so split with his ‘scheme of things’. Another five years, and Umno will be ‘gone’.
“Some Umno and BN MPs are afraid that having PAS as the leading bloc may not be good for investor and economic confidence. That’s why there is still a dilemma,” the source said.
The phrase “scheme of things” is from an audio recording allegedly leaked from a Bersatu Supreme Council meeting in 2020.

In a Facebook post, he maintained that BN should not work with PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim or DAP.

Muhyiddin Yassin Rumoured To Be Sworn In As PM At 4pm Today
Rumours are rife that former Prime Minister and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin will reclaim his old job again.
According to a source, it told Oriental Daily that Muhyiddin had gathered enough support from MPs, including some from UMNO, to show the Yang di-Pertua Agong that he had the majority.
The source also said that Muhyiddin is expected to be sworn in at 4pm today.

GE15: BN seeking extension to 2pm deadline, says Ahmad Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional members of parliament must follow the coalition’s supreme council's decision on the formation of government, says the coalition chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Zahid said at a press conference at the Seri Pacific hotel, with 26 other Barisan MPs on Monday (Nov 21) that this was because they had contested under the Barisan ticket.
He said that a decision would be made after negotiations with other parties, adding that a committee have been set up to hold the talks.
Zahid also said that said any statutory declarations signed by the coalitions MP’s were invalid.
Barisan was also seeking an extension of time from Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun to convey its decision on the formation of government, ahead of the 2pm deadline.
Zahid added that the Jelebu and Kuala Pilah MP’s were absent as they were unwell.
