He was being sarcastic. He said or claimed that he was invited to speak in Japan and South Korea but in Malaysia peepur asked him when he was retiring.
Anyway his last electorial defeat in Kedah was so bad that he lost his deposit. He has no confidence in winning and if he loses again, his name will be tarnished even more if media reports "Tun M loses electrons yet again"
So to preempt that he decides to back off but be sarcastic about it to camouflage the real reason.
