The news of Mahathir's hospitalization came to light only a few days ago when the court was hearing the defamation case filed by Mahathir against Deputy Prime Minister and Umno Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his "Indian theory".

Mahathir's lawyer Mir informed the High Court Judicial Commissioner Gan Teck Chuang that his client Mahathir was unable to appear in court because he was admitted to the National Heart Center for treatment.

The National Heart Center later issued a letter confirming that the 98-year-old Mahathir was temporarily unfit to attend the court hearing.

Last year, Mahathir was also sent to the National Heart Center for treatment several times.
