KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is hoping for a clear consensus among Southeast Asian nations on a new Indo-Pacific security partnership between Australia, the United States and Britain, its defence minister said on Tuesday (Oct 12).

The alliance known as AUKUS, announced last month, will see Australia acquiring technology to deploy nuclear-powered submarines as part of an agreement intended to respond to growing Chinese power, especially in the strategically important South China Sea.

The plan has divided countries in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia and Malaysia warning that it could lead to an arms race among rival superpowers in the region, while the Philippines, a US defence ally, has backed the pact.

How to have consensus among the ragtag group of ASEAN members? Anyway, I foresee that the aukus is a precursor for a bigger bombshell announcement soon, which is that AU may soon be hosting the US First Fleet. Likely in Perth and right at the doorstep of ASEAN.

Obviously our two big abangs are showing displeasure for this little pariah brother to go to US and tell UN that AKUS posed no problem. They must teach this little prick to learn to respect big  brother before shooting off his mouth at UN on matters that likely involving ASEAN if hell breaks loose...... Big Grin

Why not Darwin or somewhere north instead of south-west Perth? More annoying for ASEAN that way. More fun for AUKUS.
