The Big Read: Malaysia's brain drain to Singapore — winners and losers in the long run not so clear-cut

While Malaysian's brain drain has not reached a dire stage yet, economists told TODAY that the continuous outflow of talents could hamper the country's economic growth and, in turn, impact Singapore too.

"We want everyone (in the region) to do well, so they can spend a few hundred dollars here to go to the Taylor Swift concert, for example," one said.

The biggest winners are the Malaysians who work in SG for decades as PRs, then retire back like kings and queens in their homeland, after earning Sing dollars. My cousin and his wife did so and now own a landed property and 2 cars back in Ipoh.

It took DPM Heng... optimism hehh arhh to move the Republic, so can continue to thrive and, provided we continues to restructure along three lines to drive productivity-driven growth, said Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat said on Feb 27.

These lines are sustaining efforts to transform Singapore’s economy through shared ownership, building a strong innovation ecosystem and continuing to be a trusted partner for the world, DPM Heng said in Parliament.

Many Malaysians relocate to work in Singapore for better opportunities, higher salaries and advantageous exchange rates

The M'sian govt recently released an official study into Malaysians living in Singapore and warned of the “adverse effects” of the brain drain as skilled workers leave Malaysia

Economists and experts told TODAY that Malaysia’s talent exodus has not reached a dire level yet, but if left unchecked, could eventually hamper its economic growth and development

This would also not be in Singapore’s interest, given how closely intertwined both countries’ economies are M'sian workers whom TODAY spoke.

(They did't said Malaysia folks saying, Malaysia must address their political stability ehh? and also their pay gap as well (for eg: SGD$1 to RM$3.56, this is a😅big 😂?) as😒 invest in infrastructure to encourage its diaspora to return, return to Singapore or back to Malaysia?.

MALAYSIA BOLEH...WITH THIS $ 😒
