This means that either US has increased its consumption or they are getting more expensive goods from other countries. The trade deficit with China has dropped to USD279 billion in 2023,  the lowest in the last 10 years.

Definitively buying similar item from other economies will be higher in most cases.
Afterall Cn has the most completed line and capacity.
Mex due to close proximity may able narrow somewhat.
cannot expect Canadian to match that.
