Moderna puts 1.6 million doses on hold in Japan over contamination concern

Moderna has put more than 1.6 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine on hold in Japan, after it was notified that some of the vials may have been contaminated, ABC News has learned.

The company pulled three lots of vaccine each containing 565,400 doses, Moderna told ABC News. One of the lots received "several complaints of particulate matter" in its vials, the company said.

The two other adjacent lots were put on hold, out of "an abundance of caution" and for continued assurance of quality, Moderna said.
