In order to sprint forward in semiconductor technology, Samsung has been actively poaching talents in recent years. In addition to Lin Juncheng, Liang Mengsong, the former senior R&D director of TSMC, also joined Samsung in 2011 and took over the position of deputy general manager and chief technology officer of wafer foundry.

During his tenure at Samsung, Liang Mengsong helped the company rapidly improve its process capabilities, jumping from 28 nanometers to 14 nanometers, and even stole Apple orders from TSMC. However, he switched to SMIC as co-chief executive in 2017. There are rumors that Liang Mengsong was depressed during his tenure at Samsung and therefore left.

Yang Guanglei, the former director of TSMC’s R&D department and current adjunct professor of leadership studies at National Taiwan University, once said in a media interview, “South Korea is still a nationalist country, and it is difficult for foreigners to survive there.” In other words, if you are not a native Korean, Your local career will most likely be hindered.
