[New York Jiji Press] On Monday, the first day of the week, the New York foreign exchange market saw yen selling and dollar buying accelerate in response to rising US long-term interest rates, with the yen briefly hitting a low of 161.72 yen per dollar, the lowest level in about 37 and a half years since December 1986. As of 5 p.m., the exchange rate was 161.44-54 yen, down 60 yen from the same time last weekend.
