Analysis of Ng Chee Meng's Response to Photo with Fujian Gang Member
Source: Mothership.SG - News from Singapore, Asia and around the world
Date: 2025-05-06
Theme: The article discusses Ng Chee Meng's response to a photo of him with Fujian gang member Su Haijin that has been circulating online.
Core Points:
- Ng Chee Meng's Explanation: Ng explains that he met Su Haijin at a dinner engagement as part of his work as the Secretary-General of NTUC. He emphasizes that he learned about the police investigation and charges against Su later and had no further interactions with him.
- Decision to Decline Government Roles: Ng states that he will focus on his duties as an MP and his role in NTUC, and has requested not to be assigned any government positions. He cites his focus on his residents and Singaporean workers as the reason.
Potential Flaws and Considerations:
- Lack of Clarity on Engagement Nature: While Ng explains that the dinner was part of his work with NTUC, he does not provide specific details about the nature of the engagement or the organization involved. This lack of context could raise questions about the suitability of the event for a prominent public figure like Ng.
- Timing of Learning about Charges: While Ng mentions that he learned about the charges against Su "later," it's unclear how much time elapsed between the dinner and his awareness of the investigation. The timeframe could impact public perception of his judgment and decision-making.
- Focus on Work as Explanation: Ng emphasizes his focus on work with NTUC and his residents as the reason for declining government roles. However, this explanation might not address public concerns about the photo and the potential implications of associating with individuals facing criminal charges.
- Limited Information on Su Haijin: The article provides limited information about Su Haijin beyond his affiliation with a Fujian gang and the charges against him. More details about his activities and the nature of the charges could provide a more comprehensive understanding of the situation.
Additional Points:
- Joint Statements from Other Ministers: The article mentions joint statements from Ministers Ong Ye Kung and Chee Hong Tat who also had photos taken with Su Haijin. This highlights a potential wider issue of public figures interacting with individuals potentially linked to criminal activity.
- Public Perception and Trust: This incident raises questions about the importance of public figures maintaining a careful image and being mindful of their associations. It underscores the potential for negative publicity and the need for transparency in these situations.
Overall, while Ng Chee Meng's response attempts to address concerns, it leaves room for further clarification and discussion about the nature of his interaction with Su Haijin and the implications for his role in public life.

NOT ENOUGH!
NCM, OYK, CHT must voluntarily clarify whether they or their party branches under their charges did receive any donations or sponsorship from this mafia chief
It’s hard to even fathom that there is no tangible contributions arising from this significant attendance at a significant function
You think super rich people, decent people or crooks or otherwise. got plenty of time to spend at functions, if they have nothing to benefit from ?

As I said, just tip of the iceberg
The pressure is just beginning to heat up
Not just the ordinary people in the street or oppo supporters
But respectable high profile people and reputable former media people have been commenting negatively about him

State clearly why the mafia chief was there in the first place
Who invited him?
How did he get to attend this important function?
Was he asked to make a donation or sponsorship some event?
Never vet him?
Remember Yang Yin?
He could get so close to become a grassroots member

I get the picture now and what those threads are all about. Frankly, why does the Govt need to have dinner with Businessmen and not an official meeting in the office?
Secondly, Chinese Chambers of Commerce should be in the Official Meeting as well. Are they included or absent?
Lastly, what has this to do with Labour Chief?Engagement Topics were discussed in a dinner table is suspicious. Or some kind of vote buying to get him back to Parliament was deliberated? If so, clearly such Foreign Interference cannot be tolerated and legal action must be taken.
There are many suspicious points that makes this whole event doubtful.

Something not right why he now don’t want to be cabinet minister. Did he do something suspicious?

He is making GE a Singapore Huge Joke! He did not try his best thus, can easily close an eye to this Ministerial job that he won. Both SM and PM likely begged him to bid for a seat that he never wanted and did not want to serve the residents.
In this twisted mind, it is either Govt or Govt Related Companies ie Natsteel, Keppel vs Foreign Private companies. The rest in- between are family - based Singapore Business. So what the hell is he picking except another Govt job.
