Open letter: Healthcare worker says more leave restrictions will be the final straw for many, “there is only so much we can endure”

Singapore — A healthcare worker penned an open letter to Director of medical services Kenneth Mak on Monday (Jan 25), following the announcement that hospitals may have to “review and adjust” leave policies.

The worker wrote that they had not been able to “take more than 7 days of leave in a row” and that they had been “endlessly working”.

In an Instagram post @thehonesthealthcareworker, the healthcare worker wrote that as someone working in a hospital ward, they would like to ask Dr Mak to “reconsider your plan to impose fresh leave restrictions on us”.

On Friday (Jan 21), it was announced by Dr Mak that if Covid-19 case numbers in hospitals continue to rise, coupled with healthcare workers being unable to work due to COVID infection, hospitals may have to “review and adjust” leave policies.

Coward Tan SL never sue MOH for breaking the law.

Can anyhow change leave policy in any hospital without employees' approval?

Such a fake democratic country.

Leave policy for hospital workers may change if COVID cases keep rising: MOH official (msn.com)

Seriously, MOH has broken the law.

The employment contract is signed between the hospital and employee, not MOH and nurses.

Ng Chee Meng also another joker.

Then what the hell is Union for?

No, the union is to make sure the members toe the line and do not quarrel with management.

obviously throwing money does not solve the problem. they thought throw a one time few thousands dollar as appreciation would motivate all of them to endure. money can solve many problems but cannot solve all problems

This is SG, money talk. Gone are the days where workers bite the bullets and strive together.

It is for monthly get together to drink and eat and be merry among members and ntuc fairprice discount. Pay $9 but get back $90 in food, drinks, discount and entertainment.
