OMG , my friend spend $200 for.MRT bus fare monthly- this is what happened
#1

He told me. I said cannot be. So when I check this is what his weekday looks like everyday he takes bus tk bring his son to school the after that goes to work. Coming back he needed to do reverse pick his son up then go home.. Everyday is $6.80. The weekend he visit mother on Saturday snd travel for groceries and on Sunday go jn law House. Then there are other trips like see doctor, buy things etc not factored into the routine.

Every month is 180-210.

Like many people he was not aware of concession card where uou can take unlimited trips for $128.

How I come to use it was before pandemic I do online sales and deliver alone the MRT network. Because I had to take MRT so many times I bought the concession card to limit my travelling costs.

Given the transport cost increase and use of SimplyGo which does not display fare deducted and makes it harder to figure out your total monthly fares many people I believe are paying more than $150 and are not using the cheaper month concession rate. If you have time do check your total spent on mrt + bus and switch to concession to save costs.

When the government squeeze you from both ends. ...Cars expensive and Public transport fares also go up, you should use your brain to save costs. ..like using bicycle, walk a few bus stops and avoid going out unnecessarily.

Yes things are difficult but that does not mean you can do anything about it.

Cheers.

It's laziness and dun bother attitude. Some ppl dun refinance their housing loans and keep paying at high interest rates for yrs. Tell them to do it but still very reluctant.

Still relatively cheap compared to owning a car and driving.

I am a car enthusiast and love the convenience, comfort, pleasure and family bonding on road trips.  As long as I am still working, and since my home is fully paid for, I don't mind spending on my car.

There is a huge difference between driving your own car and driving others in a car that doesn't belong to you. LOL!

It is difficult to put a price on owning a car in SG, so it all boils down to affordability.  As long as we don't have to break the bank in order to buy our dream set of 4 wheels, it is worth buying one.  Life is short; we only live once.

It is because Pay And Pay wants car owners to continue to pay and pay for the right to own a car in the most expensive city in the world.

I know of friends who go to the showroom looking for a modest Cat B 2 litre Japanese sedan. However, after learning of the ridiculous prices, they opted to spend even more to secure a continental 2.5 - 3 litre sedan or SUV instead.

Someone was given golden handshake aka early retirement. Out of frustration he spent most of the money on a new bmw series 7. Very yaya when he drove it around. Now no income very moody

I thought there were always concessions for different groups since the 1980s? I remember pre-MRT, they were concession passes for buses for students, adults etc (fixed sum for whole month). Then seniors also get concessions (per trip I think). When MRT came into the picture, I think MRT also had concessions.

Do correct me if I am wrong.

I heard of similar stories of retirees who miscalculated how much life savings and investments they needed to retire as well as how long they would live. Several bought new cars as a last hurrah or retirement present to themselves, and found it too expensive to maintain w/o an income any more.

I recall our Ministers telling us not to expect the Govt to make COEs affordable to the masses. They stated that if we can afford a car, then we can go ahead to purchase one or more for our household.
