Knowing that Putin only needs to block off towns north of Odessa, and to cut off Odessa seaport completely from Ukrainian reinforcements is enough to win over the largely Russian speaking Odessa residents

After all Zelenssky had earlier planted sea mines along Odessa seaport coastal areas
