I recall  throughout my primary school I ate this once every week as a treat.

I sort of enjoyed it there are different flavors of cakes in the plastic bag. Although people think it is unwanted cake it is identical to the cake itself and just as fresh.

People shun it because it is seen as something eaten by poor people. But I was poor so not need to pretend I was not. I only think of the goodness of the cake trimmings. A bit like life and Forrest Gump's chocolates...you never know what you get in the mix but it was always good ....at least for me.

So much so, I would later feel that eating a complete cake of one flavor a boring ordeal. It's just chocolate or strawberry or pandan..that's it never chocolate and strawberry and pandan.

Into my adult life, I would still look for and buy cake trimmings.

Last week I went to the neighborhood bakery to buy cake trimmings. I have been buying from them for decades. They told me they don't sell it anymore. Why????....I was the only customer left in the estate still buying cake trimmings. They will make a few bags but if I don't turn up they end up throwing it away.

When I was primary school we kids used to buy from the cake shop near our place. 50cts or something. Called cake chwee.

Same here. But no see liao. Either snapped up by early bird or they stopped selling. Actually iz no longer good value anymore. I saw $2 / pack with beri little trimmings lidat just buy 1 unit makes more sense. 

Im sarprised Topsy ate dis during his childhood daze. Dis type of packed trimmings I ony saw a decade ago.

My place selling $2 per pack but the pack quite big so quite worth it. Selling 2 packs for 3 dollars. The trimmings are actually the side pieces and very nicely cut. Like slices of cakes themselves, unlike what is in sgbuffett's photo.
