Professor Masala, are you surprised by the attack on the whole of Ukraine?
No, I'm not surprised by what I see in military operations on the ground. It's not about the occupation of Ukraine. It's about putting pressure on Kiev. I assume it's still about Donbass and Crimea. The land bridge and with it the separation of the areas. There's nothing where I can say that I didn't expect that.
But the Donbass doesn't seem to be Putin's only target, otherwise why is Kiev also being attacked?
First, Putin said he doesn't want to occupy Ukraine, which I take at face value. But he also talks about demilitarizing and denazifying Ukraine, which ultimately means that he wants a different government. And he wants the Ukrainian army, which would not be on his side if he changed governments, he wants to disable them, so to speak.
And that's where he's at right now. So the question will indeed now be what happens now in the next wave? Is there an attempt to attack President Zelenskyi's seat? According to the motto: You go voluntarily or we'll get you.
