I can cast you my vote
and put you back in power
but
what can you do for me?
what can you offer me in return?
if I can have what I wanted
by all means, the vote is yours
you people are smart
its just a fair trade

PM Lawrence Wong’s May Day Rally speech on 1 May drew sharp criticism from netizens who accused him of turning a workers’ celebration into a PAP campaign platform, just two days before the 3 May polls. He speaking to 1,600 union leaders & tripartite partners, Wong says PAP would stand “shoulder to shoulder” w/workers regardless of election results praised trust between PAP, NTUC, & businesses, saying: “We do not fight one another, we fight together.” & rejected claims of group & stressed need for experienced leadership amid global instability. Using a football analogy, he warned that losing “3 or 4 Cabinet players” could weaken the team. He defended policies GST hikes with new task force led by Gan Kim Yong, saying such moves help prepare S'pore for future crises. He ended with: “Majulah NTUC! Majulah PAP! Majulah Singapura!” But across social media, many users expressed discomfort. “Labour Day is not PAP Day.”
Another called the speech “PAP propaganda guised as a Labour Day message.” Critics slammed Wong for politicising a national event, accusing him of fear tactics & blurring lines between got & party.
One netizen said: “If you truly care for workers, don’t campaign using NTUC.” Others questioned NTUC’s effectiveness. “Where was union when we lost jobs to foreigners?” asked one user. Another pointed to the oversupply of platform workers despite new regulations, adding, “Even food delivery jobs aren’t secure anymore.” 1-comment summed it up: “We need checks and balances. No more blank cheques for PAP.”
